Legal & Policies
Effective Date: 18 September 2026
Creating a safe, respectful, and confidential environment is an important part of the counseling process. This policy explains how information shared during counseling sessions is handled.
Information shared during counseling sessions is treated with respect and handled confidentially, subject to applicable laws and ethical obligations. The goal is to create an environment where clients feel comfortable discussing personal experiences openly.
While confidentiality is an important part of counseling, there are circumstances where disclosure may be required or permitted by law or professional obligations. These may include situations involving:
Where appropriate and possible, these situations will be discussed with you before information is shared.
Brief counseling notes may be maintained to support continuity of care and professional record keeping. These records are stored securely, accessed only when necessary for the provision of counseling services or where required by law, and retained only for as long as necessary to support continuity of care and meet professional or legal obligations.
Reasonable measures are taken to conduct online counseling sessions through secure platforms. Clients are encouraged to participate from a private location where conversations cannot easily be overheard.
Counseling sessions are not recorded without the prior knowledge and consent of all participants. Clients are also requested not to record sessions without prior discussion and mutual agreement.
While reasonable precautions are taken to protect electronic communications, complete confidentiality cannot be guaranteed when communicating via email or the internet. Sensitive matters are generally best discussed during scheduled counseling sessions.
If you have questions regarding confidentiality, these can be discussed before or during your first counseling session, or by contacting drruhitalks@gmail.com.
